Welcome to the Claife Parish Council website

The Parish of Claife is situated in the beautiful English Lake District, between Lake Windermere and Esthwaite Water. Its villages include Colthouse and High Wray (upper Claife) Cunsey, Far Sawrey and Near Sawrey (lower Claife).

The Claife Parish Council web site has been set up to give Parish residents details of the Council, what it is doing and what it is discussing. It also gives access to the Council meetings’ minutes and provides details of the next Parish Council meeting so that residents can attend if they wish.

Parish Council responsibilities include  overseeing:

  • Drainage
  • Footpaths
  • Parking
  • Litter bins
  • Roadside parking and verges
  • Signs & notice boards
  • Play ground, common ground.
  • Crime reduction in the boundaries of Claife
  • Claife planning applications

The following parcels of land, which are registered pursuant to the Commons Registration Act 1965 are owned by Claife Parish Council:

  1. Tarn Hill Playground Near Sawrey;
  2. Ash Landing Far Sawrey;
  3. Land adjoining Esthwaite Water Lake Bank Near Sawrey.

The following parcels of land are owned by Claife Parish Council:

  1. Land adjoining Waterside Near Sawrey;
  2. Land adjoining Chapel Cottage Far Sawrey.
